COLT Mod 653
在70年早期COLT推出14.5寸槍管對應卡賓槍版本的瓦斯氣動系統的M16A1卡賓槍，並保留刺刀座可裝上標準M16刺刀，依COLT公佈的型號，含有助進器版本的M16A1卡賓槍為 Mod 653。
雖然美軍僅購買小量M16A1卡賓槍系列，用於其特種部隊及保安部隊。
但在冷戰期間其蹤影活躍在中南美洲任務與加勒比海之中。其中入侵格瑞那達的”緊急狂暴行動”更是多個特種單位使用。
在贖日戰爭中美國以”五分錢救援行動”大量軍援以色列，使以色列成為M653最大的使用國。在亞洲菲律賓也取得授權生產稱之為M653 P。
