The Howa Type 89 Assault Rifle, referred to as the type 89 5.56mm rifle is a Japanese assault rifle used by the Japan Self-Defense Forces, the Japan Coast Guard's Special Security Team units, and the Special Assault Team. It was never exported outside Japan due to its strict anti-hardware export policy. It is known in JGSDF service as Buddy and its has replaced the Howa Type 64 battle rifle in frontline units.
The Systema Type 89 PTW has been one of the most highly anticipated Systema releases in years and clearly Systema pulled out all the stops with this gun. Being a leading Japanese manufacturer, there was without a doubt that THIS Type 89 would be the best replication of the same service weapon used by the JSDF and upon picking up the gun all of that feels apparent.
The gun boasts solid construction with no creeks or wobble. Its also slightly heavier than other versions of the same gun, giving it a high quality, genuine feel to it when you shoulder the rifle. The markings on it are discreet with a nice "Type 89" logo on the left side of the upper receiver and the Japanese markings for "Safe, Semi, Burst, Auto".
Internally the gun uses the same Systema PTW system we have all come to know and expect high performance from. It is also compatible with other parts necessary for upgrades and servicing.
